Korede Bello is a Nigerian artist who is relatively new to the world of music, but has still won a couple of musical awards in Nigeria.
In his song “Godwin” the africanisms present are polyrhythms (percussions & horns), group participation, and pitch inflection. This song is about how about every victory that is won is a win of God. Including small things like waking up each morning is a gift from God. Miracles happen all the time and they are all due to God. Even the things that happens in your life that are not a success are still seen as a win in the eyes of God. Even though this song is about God, due to the beat and rhythms it is considered afro-beat.
Once again the drums are a huge part of afro-beats and the sound of the drums as low key as they are in this song still adds to the afro-beat stigma. Afro-beat is a music genre which combines West African musical styles such as fuji music and highlife with American funk and jazz. Afro-beat is heavy on common African slangs relevant to the country the musician is from. Like I stated before I believe most people listen to afro-beat music to help them stay connected to their roots. Except for Africans, afro-beat music is mostly listen to by African Americans, who may not know exactly where in Africa their family is from, but thanks to afro-beat they still can feel connected to the motherland.
